Hi Simon,

Congrats on taking the pledge. I think it's commendable.

I'm curious what you think about people directing this type of money towards political activism that seeks to structurally change systems as opposed to charities that alleviate symptoms. Many of the productive pathways to doing so would not meet a legal definition of charity.

I think donating to political causes can make a lot of sense! I personally have given in the past to political candidates, and will do so in the future as well. I think it's important to be strategic about who to give to, but I'm definitely not against it in general.

Definitely agree with this. Flipping a handful of seats in the US legislature has _enormous_ implications for the future well-being of not just US citizens (e.g. renewal of the child tax credit), but the entire world (because of climate change, and the question of whether we have a sane government that is even _trying_ to deal with containing autocracies without provoking global war, versus getting our own autocrat who admires folks like Putin and Xi).
